Congratulations goes out to Troop 2135 of Limerick Maine! Their second year in a row to win the "Project Kitten Challenge" at the 10th Annual AWS Kitten Shower.

These girls worked all year to collect 816 pounds of KITTEN supplies! Very impressive!

Also impressive, and coming in second place were Troops 1056 and 252 of Kennebunk and Arundel and in third place, the Plaisted Family, in honor of Nana.

With the help of the volunteers from Amica Insurance, Shannon Moss of WMTW and the AWS Crafters, the shower was a huge success!

Now that Kitten Season is here, AWS foster families will have the supplies that they need to care for the unwanted pregnant momma cats, moms with kittens & the orphan kitties they care for until they are old enough for adoption.

Many thanks to the volunteers, groups and individuals who made this year one of the best Kitten Showers, ever!

In all, more than 2,000 pounds of supplies and $2,400 were collected.

Employees at the AWS enjoy a fast-paced, hands-on, caring environment. We are looking for people to join our animal care team. Applicants must hold a valid driver's license, have a clean driving record and able to lift 50 pounds. The starting rate is $8.00 an hour. Job duties include customer service & support, cage/kennel cleaning, and feeding & medicating. No animal care experience needed.

If you are interested in applying for a full time summer or full time year-round position, please pick up an application at the shelter.

Featured Pet

"Finn"

Finn is a gorgeous six year old with a heart of gold. He is a bit on the quiet side, but very sweet. Once he gets to know you he is really quite a friendly fellow. He gets along just fine with other cats and low key people who will treat him with the respect he deserves. If your home is an easy going, low key kind of place, Finn may be the purr-fect pick for you.

Featured Adoption Success Story

"Marceline"

Dear Animal Welfare Society,

We thank you so much for the adoption of Marceline (she was known as Zelda there). She is such a sweet kitty and we know that Megan liked her a lot. She is so sweet and loves to snuggle and lay in the sun. Her favorite game to play is fetch with beads on a necklace. When you play that with her it's funny because when she drags them back to you she trips over them. We also have wood floors so when she chases them she slides about 8 feet! And when we feed her wet food she goes absolutely nuts. She meows and meows and meows at us to hurry. We usually don't even call her by name. She responds to all sorts of names such as "Kitty Kitty Meow Meow" and "Chubbybutt." She DEFINITELY isn't under weight any more! We love her so much and again thank you for this wonderful kitty. You guys are amazing!

- Monique, Monique, & Marceline
