Click here for an update on the AWS Fund for Haiti's Animals

If you are considering your options of how to help Haiti’s people and their pets. The Animal Welfare Society has established a Fund for Haiti’s Animals. Funds collected will be sent, in total, to The Humane Society of The United States’ partner organization, Humane Society International. More than $5,000 has already been contributed. We respectfully invite you to join us in this international effort.

Community Support

Every year many individuals, schools, veterinarians, and businesses donate their time, money, and supplies to the AWS in order to help us provide for the many animals who come through our doors. Below are just a few examples:

People

Meet Jason of Kennebunk! He saved money all year and donated it to AWS. When it came time to get a picture for the website, he couldn't resist posing with our resident ferret, Harlow. We thank him for his generous donation.

Veterinarians and Staff

The staff of Biddeford Animal Hospital held their second annual "Food for the Holidays" drive to help the animals in need at AWS. During the drive they collected over five hundred total cans & bags of pet food from pet owners coming into the hospital. They also collected numerous toys and other supplies. They would like to thank everyone who donated and look forward to next years drive.

Schools

The 5th grade students, teachers and parents from Lebanon Elementary School held a donation drive and managed to collect a great deal of litter, foods, treats, and toys for the animals at the AWS. These kids put in an enormous amount of time and effort in order to help us provide for our residents. We appreciate them for doing so!

Businesses

The Kennel Shop in Saco recently donated a car load of food, towels, and various supplies. They are also a Satellite Adoption Center for the AWS helping us find homes for cats all year long. We are always thankful for their help and generosity.

If you are having trouble affording to have your cat fixed the AWS Spay Day Campaign might be able to help. Click here.

Do you have a cat that is not spayed or neutered? Did you know that an unspayed female, her mate and offspring producing 2 litters a year with between 2 and 3 kittens per litter can total -

1 year: 12

2 years: 67

3 years: 376

4 years: 2,107

and so on, and so on...

Please, have your cat spayed or neutered!

Can you help?
This month, we're hoping to raise $2,700 to purrr-chase sanitary (and really fun!) cat beds for our Community Cat Rooms! These durable 9-bed towers would allow our residents to climb, jump and nap all day long if they wanted to...after all, they're cats!

Can you help by making a donation to the AWS Comfort Fund? Keep checking back, and we'll keep you posted on our progress! To direct your tax-deductible donation to the Cat Bed project, simply select "COMFORT FUND" when making your easy online donation.

"Bunnies"

Right now is a great time to adopt a rabbit from the Animal Welfare Society. We have a wide variety of bunnies available. They range from several weeks old to adult. There are many different breeds, colors, personalities and sizes. If you would like to adopt a rabbit please fill out an adoption application and bring it in or click here to email an application to us. If you would like information about bringing home a pet bunny go to House Rabbit Society.

Featured Adoption Success Story

I did a little photo shoot with Chloe (AKA Savannah/Vanna) yesterday. She’s a little tricky to work with, as she is deaf and it’s hard to get her attention to look your way. This is my favorite one, in what I call her Sgt. Pepper jacket!

Thanks,
Chris

P.S. The reason I changed her name was because of the canine ophthalmologist. I had an appt. for my original Savannah – the papillon who had the cataract surgery. I also made an appt. for my new Savannah/Vanna. The office in New Hampshire called 3 days in a row to clarify if it was one dog or two! I couldn’t believe it – each time I said, “Savannah is coming for a post-op check-up, while Vanna is coming for an initial consult”. Three days in a row they got it wrong, so I said I would change Vanna’s name to Chloe. This was a name my friend always called my past shih tzu rescue Cleo, by mistake. It seemed to fit, so I changed it. If Chloe still had her hearing, I would not have changed it, but with her being deaf, she can’t hear what I’m calling her. So, it works!
