Meet some great animals and learn all about Pet Care and Handling with the Animal Welfare Society. Every third Saturday of the month at 10:00am. Located at 142 Free Street, Portland, Maine.

March 20 (Sat.) - Everyone is Irish this time of year. You are invited to join adoptable AWS canines and the AWS Mobile Adoption Team at Pet Quarters in Scarborough from 11-2 on for a post St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Erin Go Bragh!
March 20 (Sat.) - Join the AWS Humane Educator at the Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine on Free Street in Portland for the Pets and More Program on animal care and handling from 10 - 11.
March 27 (Sat.) - The Kennel Shop at Mill Creek is the place to be to hang out with adoptable AWS canines from 12-2.
March 27 (Sat.) - It's that time of year again, time for Fun with Bunnies. Come help McKenney Photography celebrate one year at our new studio with these precious portraits. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the AWS. Come before or after the Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt throughout downtown Biddeford! The event will be held 10-4 at McKenney Photography, 145 Main St, Biddeford. Call 282-6500 to reserve your time, or just come in during the day!
April 3 (Sat.) - The AWS Mobile Adoption Team invites you to join them and some very special shelter dogs to help spread the word about Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month and National Pet First Aid Awareness Month at Pet Quarters in Wells from 11-2.
April 10 (Sat.) - Visit with adoptable AWS shelter dogs and their Mobile Adoption Team friends at Pet Smart in Biddeford from 11-2.
April 17 (Sat.) - Planet Dog is hosting AWS canines from 1-3. Spring is beginning and a perfect time to visit and adopt a shelter dog.

May 8 (Sat.) - The 8th Annual Kitten Shower at the Shelter on Holland Road, West Kennebunk. Help AWS prepare for the 1000, plus or minus, kittens that will come to the shelter this year. Businesses, Classrooms, Community Groups and Indivduals are urged to participate in the Project Kitten Challenge. Refreshments! Bakesale! Raffles! Crafts!
May 26 (Wed.) - AWS Member Annual Meeting at Atria Senior Living Community, Route 1 Kennebunk at 6pm.
Sept. 12 (Sun.) - 16th Annual Strut Your Mutt Walk at Mother's Beach, Kennebunk. Registration begins at 10am, the 2 mile walk on the Scenic Kennebunk Beaches starts at 11:00. All funds from teams and individual walkers benefits the AWS Sadie Fund, a medial fund for our homeless residents. Click here to see the 2009 Teams. Oct. 23 (Sat.) - AWS and Behind the Scenes Charity team up for a Haunted Walk to benefit the Shelter. Guided tours begin at 6pm! Live entertainment! Bakesale! Concession Stand! Dec. 11 (Sat.) - Christmas Open House at the Animal Welfare Society on Holland Road in West Kennebunk from 11 - 2. Have your pet's photo taken with Santa, light refreshments, raffles, crafts and AWS Gift Certificates for sale. Children's Program from 10 - 12. AWS alumni receive a gift!
