July 31 ( Sat) - The last Saturday in July you will find the AWS canines and the Mobile Adoption Team at the Kennel Shop in Sanford counting down the Dog Days of Summer from 11-1.
August 7 & 8 (Sat & Sun) - Goosefair Antiques and the Animal Welfare Society host the Annual Antique Show at Kennebunk High School. 10 – 5 on Saturday and 11- 4 on Sunday. Donations of Antiques and Collectibles appreciated, call 985-3244 x 117 before August 2nd to schedule dropping them off or arrange to have them picked up.
August 14 (Sat) - Summer’ll be almost over but join the Mobile Adoption Team and the AWS canines in the air conditioned comfort at Pet Smart in Biddeford from 11-1.
August 19 (Thurs) - The AWS will have a table at Planet Dog's Yappy Hour/Demo event being run by Master Dog Trainer Sarah Wilson. The event will take place at Planet Dog, located at 49 York St.in Portland, from 5 - 8pm. Come join us, meet some AWS adoptable canines, and learn a bit about canine obedience.
August 21 (Sat) - Join the AWS at 10:30 AM at the Children's Theater of Maine on Free Street in Portland. Learn all about pet care, handling, and meet some great animals as well.
August 22 (Sun) - The Summer Sunday concert series at the Colony Hotel, 140 Ocean Avenue in Kennebunkport from 5 - 6pm. The concert will be hosted by the Animal Welfare Society; Gail Crowell will make a brief presentation about their work rehoming pets. There will be an opportunity to make a donation, suggested at $5 or more, to support their programs. Tonight's concert is a Celtic and Classical program in the Hotel's Grand Dining Room by flutists Nancy Gerber, Denise Butler, and Chris Elbrader, and violinist Sarah Lent, accompanied by Warren King on piano. This will be a moving program of Celtic songs and compatible classical music, given depth and texture by the layering of the woodwinds and violin, backed by piano.
August 28 (Sat) -Craft Fair "On the Green" in Kennebunkport 10 - 4 Have a burger or a wrap for lunch, buy a raffle ticket*, shop for some beautiful arts and crafts and meet some adoptable pets. Rain date is Sunday, August 29. Raffle items courtesy of the Society of Southern Maine Craftsmen.
August 28 (Sat) -It's the "Summertime Bash Yard Sale" at Animal Medical Associates on Route 1 in Saco from 9 -2. Donations being accepted at AMA after August 1, call 282-5151 for more information.
September 4 (Sat) - Just in time for back to school, the AWS dogs and their biggest fans, MAT, are getting ready for fall too. They’ll be at Pet Quarters in Wells from 11-1. The dogs are starting their Labor Day Weekend late for you!
September 10, 11 & 12 (Fri, Sat & Sun) - National Adoption Weekend at Pet Smart in Biddeford There are many adoptable cats and kittens who can be adopted at the Adoption Center. Adoption Hours: Fridays: 9am-12pm, Saturdays: 12-5pm, and Sundays: 12-5pm.
September 11 (Sat) - The Animal Welfare Society Mobile Adoption Team will be at The Kennel Shop at Mill Creek, South Portland with adoptable canines. Visit them from 11- 1.
Sept. 12 (Sun.) - 16th Annual Strut Your Mutt Walk at Mother's Beach, Kennebunk. Registration begins at 10am, the 2 mile walk on the Scenic Kennebunk Beaches starts at 11:00. All funds from teams and individual walkers benefits the AWS Sadie Fund, a medical fund for our homeless residents. Click here to see the 2009 Teams. September 18 (Sat) - Who let the dogs out? MAT let the dogs out! Join them at Pet Quarters in Scarborough from 11-1. Fall in love with an AWS dog!

September 25 (Sat) -The Kennebunk Dog Park hosts the 4th Annual ‘Best Dog-Gone Dog Show,’ 10 am–12 noon at the Kennebunk Dog Park on Sea Rd, next to the recycle center. Judging starts at 10:30 am. The entry fee is $5 per dog.
There will be contests galore… ribbons for the biggest & smallest dog, the shortest & longest tail, the best costume (if they come dressed!), most unusual breed, and more! Sue’s Sewn Goods will be there with scrunchies and scarves for your dogs, and aprons, eyeglass cases and tote bags for you! A few of the dog park giclee print poster images “Happy Tails” and “Springtime” will be available for sale and there are several raffle prizes including items from our local businesses: Scalawags, Roly’s English Fudge... All sales benefit the Dog Park.
October 9 (Sat) - The Kennel Shop in Sanford is where the AWS canines and dedicated Mobile Adoption Team Volunteers will continue to celebrate Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. It is after all a month long event. They’ll be waiting to tell you all about themselves from 11-1.
October 16 (Sat) - Pet Smart in Biddeford will host the AWS dogs for their last appearance during Adopt a Shelter Dog month from 11-1. Find out what shelter dogs really have to offer!
Oct. 23 (Sat.) - AWS and Behind the Scenes Charity team up for a Haunted Walk to benefit the Shelter. Guided tours begin at 6pm! Live entertainment! Bake Sale! Concession Stand! Candy for the Little Spookers! Only $3.00 per person! Donations of Canned Cat Food and Cat Litter are appreciated. Click here for photos of the 2009 Haunted Walk.
November 13 (Sat) - MAT and AWS canines will be at The Kennel Shop at Mill Creek, South Portland from 11-1. It’s Adopt a Senior Pet month. Come see what the AWS Swingin Senior Dogs are up to!
November 12, 13 & 14 (Fri, Sat & Sun) - Join adoptable pets for National Adopt a Senior Pet Month and a National Adoption Weekend at Pet Smart in Biddeford. There are many adoptable cats and kittens who can be adopted at the Adoption Center! Adoption Hours: Fridays: 9am-12pm, Saturdays: 12-5pm, and Sundays: 12-5pm.
November 20 (Sat) - The Senior Canines from AWS will be kicking up their paws as they showcase that age is only a state of mind when they visit Pet Quarters in Scarborough for National Adopt a Senior Pet Month from 11-1.
December 4 & 5, 11 & 12, 18 & 19 (Sat & Sun) - The good folks at PetSmart in Biddeford host the Animal Welfare Society for photos of your pet with Santa. Five dollars from the sale of each photo goes directly to the AWS.
Dec. 11 (Sat.) - Christmas Open House at the Animal Welfare Society on Holland Road in West Kennebunk from 11 - 2. Have your pet's photo taken with Santa, light refreshments, raffles, crafts and AWS Gift Certificates for sale. Children's Program from 10 - 12. AWS alumni receive a gift!
December 11 (Sat) - Join the AWS adoptable canines and their Holiday Elves as they Celebrate the Season at The Kennel Shop in Sanford from 11-1.
December 18 (Sat) - Pet Smart, pictures with Santa, all goin on at Pet Smart in Biddeford and from 11-1 available AWS canines and their handlers will be on hand to get their photo taken and spread good cheer!
