2012 AWS Events Calendar
 The Animal Welfare Society Humane Educator and a four legged friend visit the Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine on the third Saturday of each month at 10:30am!

February 4 (Sat) - The Animal Welfare Society Mobile Adoption Team will visit Pet Quarters on Payne Road in Scarborough with adoptable dogs from 11 - 1.
February 10 - 11 (Fri & Sat) - PetSmart Charities® National Adoption Event at Biddeford Crossing. The Mobile Adoption Team will visit with adoptable dogs from 11 - 1 on Saturday. Adoption counselors will be available in the store on Thursdays: 5-7pm, Fridays: 9am-Noon, Saturdays: Noon-5pm, and Sundays: Noon-5pm
February 18 & 19 (Sat & Sun) - Visit the Animal Welfare Society table at the Maine Home, Remodeling and Garden Show. Saturday 10-6 and Sunday 10-4 at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland. Adoptable pets will be visitng throughout the weekend.
February 18 (Sat) - AWS Humane Educator and a pet at the Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine on Free Street in Portland for a program on animal care and handling from 10:30 -11:30am.
February 25 (Sat) - Join the AWS Mobile Adoption Team and adoptable dogs at Pet Life in the Mill Creek Plaza, South Portland from 11-1.
February 25 (Sat) - It's "Adopt Day" at Happy Tails Training Center, 119 Bishop St. Portland. The AWS will have a table from 9am-12pm with information about the shelter and adoptable dogs will stop by for a biscuit. 12-2 will feature the indoor dog park. All dog park dogs need to be spayed or neutered, UTD with all vaccinations, and have proof of them at the door. Owners need to stay in the building with their dogs at all times. Balls and agility equipment will be out for the dogs to play with.
March 9 (Fri) - Cat Adoption Event at PetLife on Scammon Street, Saco! Meet some fabulous AWS volunteers and adoptable cats from 3-6pm. Bring home your next best friend!
March 10 (Sat) - Michele Lowry of Nikoe Natural Therapies presents "Introduction to Reiki for Pets" Workshop at the AWS Boston House (located at the end of Holland Road, to the right of the Community Gardens) from 10am - 12pm. Space is limited so pre-registration is required. Call 207-289-0009 for more information. $25

April 7 (Sat) - The Animal Welfare Society Mobile Adoption Team will visit Pet Quarters on Payne Road in Scarborough with adoptable dogs from 11 - 1.
April 14 & 15 (Sat & Sun) - Patriots Day Celebration in Ogunquit, visit the AWS Crafters Table at the Craft Fair on Saturday 9-5 and Sunday 9-3

May 12 (Sat) - Annual Kitten Shower at the Shelter on Holland Road, West Kennebunk. The Kitten Shower from 11-2 helps the shelter to prepare for the more than 1,000 expected kittens who will need food, shelter, medicine and love this year. It is a festive event with a huge raffle, bake sale, crafts for the kids, and the ever popular Photo Contest, bring in your best cat or kitten photo by May 7th to enter (photos will not be returned.) Take the “Project Kitten Challenge!” Collect the largest amount (in total weight) of desperately needed kitten supplies and win a pizza party and behind the scenes tour of the shelter!
May 19 (Sat) - The Yard Sale of Yard Sales! Longtime AWS volunteer, Sue Flynn, spends all year collecting items for this sale to benefit the shelter. 8am - 2pm, 6 Hearthstone Drive, no early birds please! If you would like to contribute to the sale, contact Sue at 985-1437, please, no furniture, clothes, appliances or electronics.

June 3 (Sun) - Annual AWS Art Auction at the Nonantum Resort, Ocean Avenue, Kennebunkport. Support the shelter and expand your collection. More than 50 local artists are contributing.

June 16 (Sat) - AWS Humane Educator and a pet at the Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine on Free Street in Portland for a program on animal care and handling from 10:30 -11:30am.
July (Sat) - Alfred Festival in downtown Alfred from 8am-2pm. Visit the AWS table, take home some handcrafted pet items and meet some available dogs!
July 14 (Sat) - The Animal Welfare Society Mobile Adoption Team will visit Pet Life on Main Street in Sanford with adoptable dogs from 11 - 1.
August 3, 4 & 5 (Fri, Sat & Sun) - Annual Antique Show at Kennebunk High School on Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 10-4. The AWS thanks Goosefare Antiques for allowing us to have a booth at the show and for the generous donation from a portion of the admissions revenue. Adoptable dogs will be stopping by!

August 18 (Sat) - AWS Humane Educator and a pet at the Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine on Free Street in Portland for a program on animal care and handling from 10:30 -11:30am.
August 25 (Sat) - Society of Southern Maine Craftsman Craft Fair on the Green in Kennebunkport from 10-4. Have a Congdon's Donut or a Shield's hamburger at the AWS table, buy a raffle ticket or some AWS logo wear. All proceeds from the table benefit the shelter. Rain date Sunday, August 26.
September 8 (Sat) - The Animal Welfare Society Mobile Adoption Team will visit Pet Life on Main Street in Sanford with adoptable dogs from 11 - 1.
September 9 (Sun) - Strut Your Mutt Walk at Mother's Beach, Kennebunk. Walkers Wanted! This scenic walk on the three Kennebunk Beaches raises money for the AWS Sadie Fund, a medical fund for animals in need. Registration begins at 10:00am and the walk starts at 11:00am.
September 14th - 16th (Fri & Sat) - PetSmart Charities® National Adoption Event at Biddeford Crossing.

September 15 (Sat) - AWS Humane Educator and a pet at the Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine on Free Street in Portland for a program on animal care and handling from 10:30 -11:30am.
October 6 (Sat) - The Animal Welfare Society Mobile Adoption Team will visit Pet Quarters on Payne Road in Scarborough with adoptable dogs from 11 - 1.
October 13 (Sat) - The AWS and Behind the Scenes Charity team up for a Haunted Walk through the woods at the Animal Welfare Society, Holland Road, West Kennebunk. The folks at Behind the Scenes Charity take Halloween seriously so don't miss this spooky walk! All proceeds benefit the Animal Welfare Society. Guided Tours, Live Entertainment, Candy for the Little Spookers and More 6:30 - 8:30! $4.00 per person - kids under 12 years old only $3.00. This is an outdoor event, be sure to dress appropriately. Please leave your pets at home. Rain date: Sunday, October 14th.

Ocotber 20 (Sat) - AWS Humane Educator and a pet at the Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine on Free Street in Portland for a program on animal care and handling from 10:30 -11:30am.
October 26 & 27 (Fri & Sat) - Dog Lovers Weekend at The Colony Hotel, Friday night cocktail party with raffle for AWS. On Saturday watch the AWS Drill Team Demonstration and the Mobile Adoption Team presents a Canine Fashion Show.
November 6 (Tues) - It's become a tradition! The fabulous volunteers at the AWS will be baking up a storm for the Election Day Bakesale! Visit the AWS table at the Polls and bring something yummy home after you vote!
November 10 (Sat) - The Animal Welfare Society Mobile Adoption Team will visit Pet Life on Main Street in Sanford with adoptable dogs from 11 - 1.
November 17 (Sat) - AWS Humane Educator and a pet at the Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine on Free Street in Portland for a program on animal care and handling from 10:30 -11:30am.
November 24 (Sat) - The Animal Welfare Society Mobile Adoption Team will visit Pet Quarters on Payne Road in Scarborough with adoptable dogs from 11 - 1.
December 1 & 2, 8 & 9 and 15 & 16 - It's time for photos with Santa Claws! Join the Animal Welfare Society at PetSmart at Biddeford Crossing from 11 -4 and have your pet's photo taken with" Santa Claws". A portion of the proceeds benefit the Animal Welfare Society.
December 8 (Sat) - Christmas Open House at the Animal Welfare Society on Holland Road in West Kennebunk from 11 - 2. Have your pet's photo taken with Santa, buy some sweets at the bakesale get some shopping done in our Gift Shop.
December 8 (Sat) - The Animal Welfare Society Elves will be handing out biscuits and collecting donations at the Christmas By The Sea Parade in Ogunquit. All donations gathered will benefit the shelter!
December 9 (Sun) – Visit the AWS Crafters under the tent and watch AWS Adoptable Dogs in the Second Annual Pooch Parade in Kennebunkport
December 15 (Sat) - AWS Humane Educator and a pet at the Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine on Free Street in Portland for a program on animal care and handling from 10:30 -11:30am.
