MAY 2008
May 17th (Sat.) - Please join us from 12 - 3 at The Animal Welfare Society, Holland Road, for our 6th Annual Kitten Shower. From spring through early winter our resources are stretched to the limit! Currently we are caring for 170 cats and kittens. The Kitten Shower helps the shelter to prepare for the more than 1,000 expected new arrivals. It is a festive event with contests, educational booths, refreshments and a raffle! Take the “Project Kitten Challenge!” Collect the largest amount (in total weight) of desperately needed kitten supplies and win a prize!
May 17th (Sat.) -The AWS shelter dogs and the Mobile Adoption Team will be at Pet Quarters in Scarborougf from 11 - 2. Information will also be available about dog bite prevention - it is after all Dog Bite Prevention Week.
May 28th (Wed.) Join us at AWS's 41st Annual Meeting at Atria, Route One in Kennebunk at 6:30pm. Hors d'oeuvres and light refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to 985-3244 Ext: 101 or awsoff@animalwelfaresociety.org
May 31st (Sat) - The Mobile Adoption Team is doing double duty at Maine Bank & Trust in Sanford and at Ocean National Bank, Kennebunk from 9 -12. We will have adoptable cats and dogs at both locations and we will be collecting cat and kitten supplies for all of the felines who will be coming to stay at the shelter while they find their forever homes this spring and summer. The cats and kittens always need scoopable litter and high quality cat and kitten food – wet and dry. These are some other supplies that are needed: KMR (Kitten Milk Replacement - canned or powdered), cat and kitten nail clippers, hot water bottles and other warmers for sick or orphaned cats and kittens. All donations are very much appreciated. See you on the 31st; you can bank on it!

June 7th (Sat.) - The AWS shelter dogs and the Mobile Adoption Team will be at Planet Dog in Portland from 12 -2. No summer in Maine would be complete without adopting a friend to include in all your summer activities.
June 14 (Sat.) - PetSmart in Biddeford 10 -1 Meet and Greet our latest adoptable Greyhounds. Learn more about what perfect companions they make!
June 21st (Sat.) - Liam Crotty, a local portrait photographer, will take portraits of individual animals or animals with their families at Animal Welfare Society, Holland Road, West Kennebunk from 11 - 3. Crotty has donated his time to the Animal Welfare Society. Each family will receive one 8x10 portrait from the sitting – a package valued at more than $125.00.
Appointments are required and can be made by calling the Animal Welfare Society at 207-985-3244 x101. The suggested donation amount of $25 can be given at the time of the sitting.
June 21st (Sat.) - PetSmart in Biddeford from 11 - 2 is the perfect place to celebrate Adopt a Cat Month. Adoptable AWS dogs will be on hand to support their feline friends in what we all hope to be a successful adoption event for all!

July 19th (Sat.) - Bring your tool belt. Watch plenty of DIY. The AWS canines and the Mobile Adoption Team will be at Pet Quarters in Scarborough July 19, 2008 from 11-2 in honor of Dog House Repair Month! Get your dog house in move in-condition and take home an AWS shelter dog.
July 19th (Sat.) - AWS joins in the 200th Birthday Celebration at the Alfred Festival from 9 -3 on the Alfred Village Green.
July 26, 2008 (Sat) - Join the Mobile Adoption Team and their special friends at The Atria in Kennebunk for a Christmas in July party! The fun starts at 1:30 p.m at The Atria, Route 1 in Kennebunk. The adoptable AWS dogs are already planning a Yuletide fashion show. In addition, there will be plenty of decorations, food and Santa will be there too! In a joint effort with all the elves at The Atria, Santa will be collecting donations for the shelter residents. Keep an eye out for the gift list on the web.

August 2nd (Sat.) - The Dog Days of Summer are best spent at Planet Dog in Portland. The AWS canines and the Mobile Adoption Team will be keeping cool at Planet Dog August 2. 2008 from 12-2.
August 2nd and 3rd (Sat. and Sun.) - Buy a treasure to benefit AWS at the annual Antique Fair to be held at the Kennebunk High School from 10am-5pm on Saturday and from 11am-4pm on Sunday.
August 16th (Sat.) - The AWS Mobile Adoption Team and adoptable canines will be at PetSmart in Biddeford in full force on August 16, 2008 from 11-2 in honor of National Homeless Animal’s Day. Come visit with the adoptable AWS dogs and cats and give a deserving shelter animal a place in your home.
August 23rd (Sat.) - Join us at The Village Green on Ocean Ave. in Kennebunkport for the annual Craft Fair on the Green from 9am-4pm.

September 7th (Sun.) - AWS's 14th Annual Strut Your Mutt at Mother's Beach in Kenneubunk. Join us to walk for a great cause. See you all there!
September 20th (Sat.) - Fall in love with a dog or cat when the AWS Mobile Adoption Team visits Pet Quarters in Scarborough on September 20, 2008 from 11-2.

October 4th (Sat.) - October is National Adopt A Shelter Dog Month. AWS canines and their Mobile Adoption Team friends will show you why shelter dogs make the best pets, not only in October, but all year long. Join us at Planet Dog in Portland October 4, 2008 from 12-2.
October 18th (Sat.) - Adopt A Shelter Dog Month continues at PetSmart in Biddeford on October 18, 2008 from 11-2. Stop by and introduce yourself to a shelter dog available for adoption.
October 24th and 25th (Fri. Sat.) - Annual Dog Lovers Weekend at The Colony

November 15th (Sat.) - Celebrate Adopt a Senior Dog Month at Pet Quarters in Scarborough on November 15, 2008 from 11-2 with the AWS canine elder statesmen and women. These dogs will show you why life begins at eight!

December 6th (Sat.) - Tis the Season to join the AWS dogs at Planet Dog in Portland December 6, 2008 from 12-2. Make this year extra special and share the Spirit of the Season with your new family member.
December 13th (Sat.) - Join us at the shelter for our Annual Open House from 11-2. Enjoy some treats and receive a complimentary picture of your pet with Santa!
