Cleo Fund: This program helps low income clients with spay or neuter of cats, mixed breed dogs and rabbits. They also offer low cost spays and neuters for mixed breed dogs and cats that are stray or the victim of abuse or neglect. Call 207-773-6221.
Friends of Animals: Pet owners may purchase a certificate from Friends of Animals that can be used for a routine spay or neuter surgery at any of FoA’s participating veterinary hospitals. Currently Wells Dog and Cat Hospital and Stoneledge Animal Hospital in Westbrook accept these certificates. Certificates may be purchased on-line or to order by mail call 1-800-321-PETS (1-800-321-7387) and request an application.
The recommended age for spay/neutering is 2-6 months of age.
Female animals should be spayed before their first heat (estrus cycle).

Help with Emergency Veterinary Care:
THE PET FUND: Provides financial assistance to owners of domestic animals who need urgent
veterinary care. The Pet Fund also provides information about preventative care, pet insurance programs,
and financial services that will ensure that pet owners are able to develop financial resources on their own

HELP-A-PET: Provides financial assistance for the medical care of pets whose owners are unable to

FELINE VETERINARY EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: Provides assistance to cat/kitten
guardians who are unable to afford veterinary services to save their companions when life-threatening
illness/injury strikes. Focus on seniors, people w/ disabilities, people who have lost their job, Good

STARFLEET CANINE AID FOUNDATION: SCAF was created to provide financial aid to owners or
rescue organizations that could not otherwise afford medical treatment for the curable disease or
recoverable accident of a canine companion. http://www.canineaid.org
IMOM: Dedicated to better the lives of sick, injured and abused companion animals and to insure that no
companion animal has to be euthanized simply because their caretaker is financially challenged. Allows
owners to fundraise for their pets’ care via their website. Also has limited funds for emergencies, blind
