 Be A Hero

AWS Hero Tours

Hero Tours is a program designed to acknowledge children who make remarkable contributions to the AWS. When a child donor visits or contacts the shelter to make a donation, they are given the opportunity to schedule a Hero Tour at the shelter. A Hero Tour includes a full behind-the-scenes tour of the facility as well as a Certificate of Appreciation and the option of having their picture taken which may be used on the web site or in a press release. For more information please call 985-3244.

Our Humane Educator, Garret, travels to many different schools to teach children about animal welfare and what we do at the shelter. Recently, he visited Mr. Daly's 3rd Grade class at MCS School in Sanford to teach them about enrichments. He made a return trip to actually make some with them. Finally, they came to visit us to donate all the enrichment items they had assembled. Thanks for getting involved and supporting our shelter kids!

Like all good scouts, Girl Scout Troop 1472 wanted to do something to benefit their community. They decided to help wayward animals by collecting donations for the AWS. They ended up bringing us quite the sizable donation of toys and food for all of our animals in need. Thanks for your hard work and generosity ladies!

And the heroes just keep on coming! Like some of our other heroes, Kiauna asked her friends and family for donations to the shelter, instead of gifts for herself, for her birthday. She ended up bringing to us a sizable donation of food, toys, and other supplies we are always in need of. While here, she got to visit with a couple of our resident birds. Thanks Kiauna!

It's always great to see a trend continue, particularly when it's one that benefits our animals. When young Caden's birthday rolled around, he asked his friends and family to bring donations for the AWS instead of gifts for him. Along with a friend of his, he dropped off his generous donation to us and got to spend some quality time with our Human Education Assistant, Douglas. Thanks Caden!

Young Caitlin here is a big fan of the AWS. She wrote us a very nice letter expressing her thanks for all we do and included a generous cash donation with it. Well Caitlin, we couldn't do all we do without the support from kind souls like you. Thanks for your donation Caitlin!

Getting an allowance is a great thing for a kid. It gives them a chance to buy things for themselves as well as teach them about financial responsibility. Well, Ben has learned very well. Instead of spending his allowance on himself, Ben bought dog and cat food for our shelter animals. His parents must be as proud of him as we are thankful. Hope to see you again soon Ben!

A common thread among many of our heroes is their willingness to put the needs of our animals above their own desires. Such is the case with young Maddie here. When her birthday came around, instead of asking for gifts for herself, she asked for donations for the AWS. Our thanks go out to Maddie for her generosity, and a happy birthday to her as well.

Our thanks to the Girl Scouts from Troop 1888 in Waterboro, who recently delivered a sizable donation to us. Through hard work, dedication, and a need to serve their community, they amassed supplies for our animals in need. They brought us cat grass, food, litter, and even homemade cookies, among other items. Your generosity is greatly appreciated girls!

The girls from the Waterboro Girls Group have been working on their etiquette lessons lately. To prove how well they've been doing, they visited the shelter recently and were perfect ladies. They were polite, well-mannered, and quiet. In addition, they brought along a sizable donation of cardboard tubes, food, and other supplies for our animals. Thanks for your generosity girls.

A lot of generous children make donations to our shelter to help our animals in need. Not a lot of them can say they personally crafted their donations. That's what young Gracie here did. Along with some tennis balls and rope toys, she donated cats toys that she made herself. We, and most definitely all of our cats, appreciate her hard work and dedication to animals.

These hard-working Cub Scouts wanted to do something to help all the animals we see come through our doors. So together they accumulated a sizable donation of dog toys and food. We appreciate their generosity and devotion. Hope to see you guys again.

Troop #1085 of the Girl Scouts of America recently held a donation drive for the AWS. They worked hard and amassed a sizable donation of food, toys, litter, and other supplies. In addition, they brought with them a generous check raised from the sale of their famous cookies. Thanks for all your hard work ladies! We know all of our animals will appreciate it.

Our thanks go out to young Rylie, who recently made a generous donation to the shelter. She had a blast during her hero tour and even got to spend time with one of the many puppies that come through our shelter to find new homes. We couldn't do what we do without the continued support of thoughtful kids like Rylie. Thanks Rylie!

Meet Tierza and Trey, a pair of siblings who love their animals. They brought to the shelter a donation of food, litter, and many gift cards that we can use for other necessary supplies. Here they are enjoying the company of one of the many cats who spend time in our community rooms. Thanks for your donation Tierza and Trey!

Our thanks to Kathryn, who helped save the Earth at the same time she helped the animals at the AWS. Kathryn collected bottles and donated the money she gained from recycling them to the AWS. Talk about two for one! Thanks for your generosity and for caring about the Earth and all it's animals.

When Aiden's birthday rolled around, he didn't want presents. No sir, he wanted his friends and family to provide donations to the AWS instead. He loves animals that much. We're thankful for Aiden's generosity and for all the donations he ended up bringing us.

Many thanks go out to Sophie and Emerson, two devoted kids who really love their animals. They ran a lemonade stand in order to raise money for the shelter. Just recently they visited for their hero tour and enjoyed the company of a couple of kittens that were available for adoption. Thanks for your donation and hard work Sophie and Emerson!

It's that time of year again...that's right, it's Delaney's birthday! Delaney is an incredibly loyal supporter of the AWS and has visited us many times. Every year when her birthday rolls around she gets her friends and family to collect supplies for the shelter in lieu of birthday presents. We are always grateful and happy to see Delaney and her generous donations. Happy birthday Delanery and many thanks for your continued support.
