Hero Tours is a program designed to acknowledge children who make remarkable contributions to the AWS. When a child donor visits or contacts the shelter to make a substantial donation, they are given the opportunity to schedule a Hero Tour at the shelter. A Hero Tour includes a full behind-the-scenes tour of the facility as well as a Certificate of Appreciation and the option of having their picture taken which may be used on the web site or in a press release. For more information please contact Lona Anges at 985-3244 Ext: 109 or lona@animalwelfaresociety.org
These kids are from Rosie Kid's Child Care. Together with their families they raised over a $100 to buy supplies from our Wishlist. They brought us food, treats, paper, towels, all sorts of things. Thanks for your donation and for caring about our animals kids!
Here we have Girl Scout Troop 242 from West Kennebunk who went above and beyond with their donation. They brought to us over 100, yes 100, items including 11 care packages specifically designed for our various animals. They did so to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts. Our thanks to these ladies and to Girl Scouts everywhere for their continued support.
The Girl Scouts from Troop 442 in Saco recently stopped by the visit us. They brought with them a generous donation of supplies and money to help us keep all of our animals fed and happy. Our thanks to these girls for all their hard work and for caring about our animals.
Noelle and Rachael are regulars at the AWS. They've attended all of our programs for kids, including the Summer Camp and Vacation Camp. Here they are with a sizable donation they brought to us with items from our Wish List as well as cash. It's no wonder they care about animals in need so much, their grandfather was a veterinarian so it's in their blood. Thanks for your generosity girls.
Ella, Ari, and Zach are back! They recently donated a large supply of treats, toys, and other supplies that they received for Christmas instead of gifts for themselves. Here they are taking part in their Hero Tour, posing with a couple of our resident ferrets and Chase. We're always thankful for caring kids like Ella, Ari, and Zach.
This caring group of 1 -3 graders from Mrs. Minchin's class at Carl J. Lamb School in Sanford researched how to take care of your cat. This is essential information that any new (or veteran) cat owner needs to know.
Mrs. Kimball at Sea Road School in Kennebunk teaches her students about economics. Every year her students start a 'Pencil Business' where they imprint pencils with several different sayings and sell them to other students at the school for 25 cents each. Then they decide where to donate the money. The past two years the Animal Welfare Society was selected to receive a donation. Here are the students with the AWS Humane Educator, Lona, and the donation check.
For siblings Ella, Ari, and Zach, Christmas time truly was a time for giving. When it came time to write their letters to Santa, all they asked for were items to donate to the Animal Welfare Society. Well, Santa delivered and they brought us a donation full of food, treats, and toys for all our animals. Thanks Ella, Ari, and Zach for thinking about our animals during the holiday season and caring about them so much.
The girls from Girl Scout Troop 407 are a hard working bunch. They held a donation drive for the shelter and ended up collecting supplies, toys, blankets, and many other things we need on a regular basis. Without support like theirs, we couldn't do what we do. Thanks for your donation girls!
Delaney (standing in back in the pink jacket) is no stranger to the AWS. Every year, for several years now, she's brought donations in to the shelter in lieu of birthday gifts. This year she needed help just to bring in the many toys, bags of food, and various other supplies she collected. Our thanks for your continued support Delaney!
Here are the girls of Girl Scout Troop 1081 from Sanford. They set out to raise donations for the AWS and boy did they ever collect a lot. They ended up bringing in a sizable amount of food, treats, enrichment items, and many other things we need on a regular basis. Thanks for your donation girls!
Our thanks go out to Abby for her donation of cardboard boxes and tubes for our canine enrichment program. We always appreciate the generous contributions of children like Abby who care about all the animals in need at our shelter. We couldn't do what we do without caring kids like Abby.
Hayden and Chase are brothers who know all about sharing. They were thoughtful enough to bring in a variety of food, toys, and bedding for their animal friends at the shelter. Thank you so much for thinking of the animals.
The holidays are meant to be a generous time, and the kids from the Hansen School in Lebanon know that all too well. They brought in a massive donation of toys, treats, food, supplies, and practically everything else we use to help our animal residents. Here we see our Humane Ed dog Chase posing with the many items donated, fittingly enough, under a Christmas tree. Our thanks to all the students from the Hansen School.
These adorable boys from Sweet Peas Daycare brought presents to the pets at the AWS. They made enrichment treats for the dogs and brought toys for the dogs and cats!
Such a young age to understand that there are homeless pets that need toys! Christmas is for shelter pets too!
