MAT

Mobile Adoption Team

The Animal Welfare Society’s Mobile Adoption Team is a group of dedicated volunteers whose mission is to showcase adoptable shelter residents outside the shelter environment to potential adoptive families and to educate the public about shelters, adoptable shelter animals and sometimes even their own pets.  MAT is the arm of the shelter that humanizes our shelter, our shelter programs and our beloved shelter residents.

MAT has a regular rotation of stores including Pet Quarters in Scarborough and Pet Smart in Biddeford.  The Team also visits Reigning Cats and Dogs in Kennebunk and Wells and other AWS satellite adoption locations.  MAT participates in special events such as the Alfred Festival and the Craft Fair on the Green in Kennebunkport.  The Team is always somewhere, so check the AWS events page to catch up with us.

In conjunction with the AWS Obedience Department MAT’s most popular event, by far, are its fashion shows.  The Colony Hotel was the site of the first AWS Dog Fashion Show during Dog Lover’s Weekend.  MAT has started community outreach and goes to the Atria in Kennebunk quarterly to put on a fashion show for Atria residents.   A Canine Holiday Fashion show is also an annual event.

If you are interested in joining MAT please contact our Volunteer Coordinator.  If you are interested in scheduling a MAT appearance, please contact Ginger at 985-3244 x 125.

The Mobile Adoption Team helps to keep the spirit of the dogs buoyed and most certainly enhances their adoptability. Click here to read excerpts from notes to AWS to recap their adventures - known as MAT's Musings! Enjoy!
