AKC Canine Good Citizen courses at the AWS
Your dog can be certified as a Canine Good Citizen through the American Kennel Club and AWS. The six-week course prepares you and your dog for the ten-point test:
- Accepting a friendly stranger
- Sitting politely for petting
- Appearance and grooming
- Walking on a loose leash
- Walking through a crowd
- Sit and Down on command / Staying in place
- Come when called
- Reaction to another dog
- Reaction to distractions
- Supervised separation
Please note that you must have completed the Basic Obedience course before enrolling in this course.
 General Information
- Class meets once a week for 6 weeks
- The cost of the class is $95.00 for the 6 week course and includes the testing fee. Checks payable to "AWS"
- Dogs must be up-to-date on vaccinations including rabies and have a current license with the town of residence.
- One primary instructor is required
- Classes are held indoors if raining and during winter months
Class Content
- One hour of in-class training time each week
- Preparation for taking the AKC CGC test (test fee included in course registration)
Materials Needed for Class
- 4-6 foot leash, nylon- not chain or retractable lead
- Buckle collar or Slip collar
- Treat rewards
