I Can Help!
Become an Animal Advocatz!
This page will be featuring certain long term resident animals as the Humane Education Animal and we'll be counting on you to become Animal Advocatz. Your mission will be to talk to you friends, family, schoolmates..anyone at all about the featured animal. We need your help to get these animals adopted! If an adoption happens because of your good work..let us know! Your could be the next Humane Hero and a role model for all of us!
For more information on helping, please feel free to contact our Humane Educator, Barbara, at 985-3244 x109 or email awshe@animalwelfaresociety.org !
Scooby is on the Lookout!
Heres a mystery for you. A one year old spayed female American Staffordshire Terrier found as a stray ends up at the shelter. Scooby here looking not so much to solve the mystery of how I got here, but trying to find a new home. I am a very playful dog looking for a home with no cats and kids over twelve (because I play a little rough sometimes). It is hard to tell here at the shelter if I am completely housetrained, but a refresher course would not be a bad idea. The staff here can give you all the information you need to help me with that. I get along with most dogs, so if you already have a dog at your house bring him or her to the shelter to meet me. What is no mystery is that I would like to go to obedience classes. I am still a young dog and it appears that no one took the time to teach me basic obedience skills. Obedience classes are offered here at the shelter and I have started going to shelter dog classes on Thursdays. Obedience classes are a lot of fun and they open the doors to other fun activities I can do with my family like agility classes or simply walking on the beach. So come on, get Freddie, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy loaded in the Mystery Machine and come to the shelter to see me.
Always Remember to Spay and Neuter your Pets- The reason that we see so many unwanted animals here at the shelter is because there are way too many being born! Here at the AWS, we LOVE kittens, puppies and other animals but sadly, in this world there aren't enough homes for all of them. How can you help? By making sure that all of your animals are SPAYED or NEUTERED! This is a simple operation performed by a veterinarian that will prevent your animal from having babies. That way, there will be fewer animals born and that makes it easier to find loving homes for them all. Think about it...by spaying or neutering your pets, you are actually SAVING ANIMAL'S LIVES! How cool is that? Tell all of your friends how important it is to spay and neuter and remember that if your family cannot afford to have the surgery done, AWS has programs that can help. For more information, visit out Spay/Neuter Program page!
