This is Oreo and her new roommates, Mac and Sierra who were also adopted. You knew the boys as Nico (orange tiger) and Merlin (white and gray). Oreo is adapting quite well to her new home. Thanks again, Deb and Richard

We recently adopted Cupid and Tinsel from AWS. How we got them is a funny story. We were watching T.V. seeing if there was a snowday and on NECN there was an adopt a pet segment. As soon as I saw Tinsel I knew I had to get her...
There was a large snowstorm earlier in the day. My son woke the whole family up at 5 am. After he cleaned off the car we got started to Maine we were coming from Wenham, Massachusetts. When we reached the end of the driveway we got stuck in the snow my son hopped out of the car and dug us out.
When we arrived at about 7 we were the first in line after waiting four hours we finally went in. There they were all 11 pups running around licking and playing with you. After about ten minutes we had to make our decision my son wanted Cupid who ran right up to him when he came in the room. I myself wanted Tinsel - she had the cutest face. Finally they told us that we could take two because we have two kids. So now we have Cupid for my son and Tinsel for my daughter. Now everyone is happy.

Feb. 2, 2009 was the 1st year anniversary of my wife and I adopting Broadie (named Roadie at AWS). Here he is on his first day at home.

After losing our last Sheltie (9 1/2 yrs old) to Cancer on Dec. 7 2007, I started looking for another Sheltie about a month later.
Broadie had been a stray around the shelter for several months and was eventually caught. The day he became availible I was at AWS at 6:00 AM waiting to see him, wanted to be the first and was. Since we brought him home we feel he was an angel sent us. He adjusted very quickly, he's been very friendly, very willing to learn new things and has been a great addition to our family. We went to Obedience class at AWS, it was fun and a great learning experience for us.
A big THANK YOU for all you do at AWS and for operating a great facility!

Learning Agility jumping.

Nicely groomed on Graduation day from Obedience class.
With Santa at the AWS open house in Dec.
Thanks again, Steve & Irene

Meet Jack and Skittles
They have made a wonderful addition to our family, and we are so glad we got to keep the brother and sister together. Our two Italian Greyhounds and our 2 year old son love the cats so much. Actually, it has took a while for the dogs to get used to the fact the cats have taken over (lol), but they all get along great.
These are the best cats I have ever had. They are playful yet VERY lazy, they cuddle, and they beg for treats just like our dogs. Daisy sleeps on my head at night and Jack has his "blanky". We have heated floors through the house so they love just laying around on the floor. Jack disappears within the house alot, he's really good at finding peaceful places to sleep, and Daisy is very social and likes to be in the middle of everything. Both have jumped into the bathtub while my son was having his bath, and they must not have hated it too much because they both did it again a week later! They make us laugh, they have unconditional love for us, and now that we have them, i dont know what i would do without them.
thanks so much for all that you guys do. you have made our family very happy by helping these pets be a part of our lives. where would these cats be if it wasnt for you? :)
lots of love,
jessica
"Jazzy"

My coworker, Muriel suggested that I send you a picture of our Miss Jazzy that we recently adopted from your Shelter (the day before the ice storm). My husband, Scott, stood in line bright and early at 4am the day she became available because from the moment we saw her posted on the website, there was something about her that caught our eyes and we knew this was certainly one opportunity we could not miss.
Needless to say when the doors finally opened at 11am that cold, dreary morning of December 11th., we immediately knew Scott's time waiting was well spent as Scott, myself, our daughter Erica (who skipped school), and son Patrick (who I dismissed early) finally met Jazzy. Let's just say it was instant attraction and within 15 minutes, she was on her way home with us. She is your typical clumsy and funny puppy, never knowing what she'll bring next. From day one, she has slept thru the night and quickly adjusted to our routine of 3 daily walks and mealtimes consisting of 6am and 4pm. She has already learned that when she comes in from conducting her business outside, she sits patiently on her mat by the backdoor awaiting her treat. That was accomplishment #1. Accomplishment #2........we have her sit in one area of the house and instruct her to "stay". We then walk to another section of the house with her treat in hand and only once told to "come", does she pounce her clumsy way over to us to receive yet another treat. She is very "treat" driven.
She absolutely loves the dogs in the neighborhood, particularly Bailey who mothers her all the while Jazzy is pouncing on her. She loves playtime with the kids in the snow, running up and down our front lawn which is a hill and perfect for sledding. She was a charm with all the chaos and entertaining we did at our home in celebration of Christmas. We love her to pieces, constantly kissing, playing, and snuggling her when she finally hits her wall.
Beginning January 5th, Erica and I will be participating in your 6 week class for puppies and are looking forward to just learning more ourselves and teaching her all we can. She had her first Vet appt on December 18th with Dr. Hutchins and both he and his staff fell in love with her as well. She's a real keeper!!!
We wanted to share with you a "happy" story...
We adopted "Cody" on 12-19.
Having lost our 12 yr old Husky last June, we took our time in finding a "new" dog.
I want to tell you, we hit "gold"! Cody has been re-named "George Bailey" after Jimmy Stewarts character in the 1946 movie "It's A Wonderful Life".
George is a miracle! He has settled into his new home better than anyone could have hoped! He is gentle w/ our kids & other animals (even the rabbit!).
George is amazing! He comes plowing w/ me & LOVES to ride in the truck, he is not spooked at all by the noise of the blade scraping (usually, this make most dogs nervous).
George sleeps through the night & has not had any accidents in the house! I walk him @ 8pm & he doesn't stir until the kids get up.
George learned on the 1st day to follow the old dog out to do their business & he follows her back in....AMAZING!
All the neighbors have come to meet him & he is polite but affectionate, he loves EVERYONE! & EVERYONE loves George! He has made this a VERY happy Christmas for us & for that we are eternally grateful!
Hello,
My husband and I adopted a kitten from you in July and I wanted to send you a little update on how he is doing. He was 10 weeks when we got him and his name was Barney but his new name is Dexter, or Dexy.
Melissa was taking care of him and she seemed to really adore him so I thought Id send pictures of him. He is so big. He has huge paws and he has a buddy, Mr. Feeney. We got Mr. Feeney about a month after we got Dexy.
Well Dexter and Mr. Feeney get along great. They love to play and wrestle. Dexy loves to play with the Christmas ornaments hanging from our tree. My husband, Jameson, is Dexters favorite person. At night time he will come and love on Jameson and then give me a few mintues to love on him. Dexy loves company and is very social. He loves it when I leave the faucet on in the bathroom for him so he can drink the water. He is obsessed with water!!! Ive never seen a cat who loves to play in water. I make sure his water bowl is always full but he drinks a little then puts his paws in it and knocks it over to play in it. He loves it when we shower and one time he even jumped in! He is the alpha male! We love him so much and I just want you to know that he has a loving family. The four of us, me my husband Dexter and Mr. Feeney are very happy.
Dexter has a great home and he gets more love than any kitty!!!
Hi! Do you recognize this big guy? He was a sick little weim pup when you all rescued him from Greenland. He fought a long battle with a variety of parasites, primarily the “evil” giardia bug, but he never let it get his spirit down, hence his new name- Triumph. He has grown into a big ball of energy with a passion for chewing! So he has lots of toys, and lots of friends to keep him entertained! Whenever anyone in his family needs to forget their troubles, Triumph is right there to play whatever game one needs to feel better. We could not have special ordered a better addition to our family. Thank-you for all you do to give people the chance they need to bring some unconditional love into their lives with these very special pets- true gifts of sunshine in an otherwise gray world. Blessings, Triumph's Family
Hi Gail, we spoke last week about Shiraz… She is Sheba now, and really is a wonderful cat.. she is so happy and literally wakes us up at night with her purring…
She is also a wicked night owl; halfway through the night we hear her playing with one of her bell ball toys, bouncing it down the step. She does not go out and has ‘accepted’ our boxer, and has had no problems with him at all.
Thanks so much for all that you folks do at the facility…
One summer afternoon in the Mousam River Campground, in Kennebunk, Me. there was a small black dog running back and forth in the open field. At first we thought the dog was just playing or she wandered off from it's home but then everyone else saw the dog to doing the same thing. So one of our neighbors at the campground tried to coux her to us with food and a treat. At fir st she wouldn't come, then after an or hour so she became friendly. Very frightened and confused and with no I.D. or collar, it became apparent the dog had been dropped off or abandoned. As night fell we were worried that she would be left outside with no food or water so my boyfriend and I called her over to our campsite to feed her and let her stay the night. We both became attached to her by letting her sleep on the bed that night, she was traumatized as the boyfriend (Lee) had put it. The next morning we brought her to the Animal Welfare Society to see if they could find the owner. They scanned her for a chip, and kept her for seven days to see if the owner came to claim her. She was an eleven month old female pitbull mix without a home so my boyfriend and I decided that we would adopt her if no one else did. She had a medical checkup and a safety evaluation and two weeks later we adopted her. Not knowing her real name we named her Jewel because of the diamond shape white spot on the top of her neck. All she wanted was a loving home. She is a very loving dog and spoiled by everyone in the campground that helped get her where she is today, in a new home in Wells, Maine.

TAKE CARE...
LOVE, BERNIE (joker)
I wanted to let you know that Bobby (now called Skippy) is doing really well. After a year of begging and researching and saving my money I finally convinced my parents to let me adopt a puppy. We looked at a ton of websites and visited a few shelters but nothing fit our requirements. My mom was doing a little research of her own and she saw that there were a few puppies. The next morning we were 6th in line to get a puppy. My mom wanted a little black one, but I fell in love with Skippy. We anxiously waited our turn, watching as the puppies were adopted one by one. When our turn came Skippy was one of the last ones. We chose him and were taken to an outside area. The lady who was with us was talking to us about him and she gave us advise on puppies. I paid for him using all the money I had saved up and he was worth every penny.
Skippy is now nine months old. He is fascinated by the cat and loves to chew on bones. He is loving, affectionate, and learned three tricks in his first week with us. Skippy is so awesome and we love him so much. He sleeps in my room by my bed every night and loves to go on car rides. He loves everyone and is as cute as a button. I could not even imagine life without him. Thank you so much for helping me find my furry little soul mate!!
